Playtime!

My nephew turned 1 this week. He has so many exciting firsts to look forward to in his life and I’m really happy to witness them through his eyes. I think part of what makes us lose touch with the light inside ourselves as we get older is when we become jaded with age. We lose sight of how easy it is to have fun.
If you were to look at yourself as a soul instead of a body you’d realize your souls age spans so many lifetimes. Your current age is merely a number we use to categorize where we are in this lifetime.
If you’re in your mid twenties you’re expected to have your career path set or your life partner chosen. If you’re in your late twenties you’re expected to settle down and marry. By your thirties you’re expected to have children (if that’s what you want) and “have your life in order.” These are expectations society places on you and not necessarily what your soul needs.
Your soul needs nourishment. It needs to feel safe and trusted. It needs playtime and sometimes that means riding on a carousel, playing in the dirt, drawing in a coloring book or just letting your guard down to feel like a kid again. Your soul is still so young so treat it as you would your 1 year old nephew- read stories that make you happy, allow yourself to jump in puddles, run in the grass or maybe even find something you’ve never done and experience the excitement of a “first time” again.
I won’t say you only live once because, as an Akashic Record reader, I know that’s not true. But years from now you’ll have a choice to look back on the life you’ve had. You can make the conscious decisions now to find happiness in your daily life so that when you reflect in your “old age” you will smile and know you’re still young at heart regardless of what year you were born.
When you wake tomorrow morning, quiet your mind before the world rushes in and ask yourself “what is one small thing I can do today that will bring me joy?” And then do it!
Let me know how it works out.
