"We will love and sacrifice our hearts for the sake of another’s happiness. That is not always what God wants. He wants to know His children care for each other wholeheartedly but not at the expense of themselves. If you are a vessel of love that fills into another vessel- He reminds you not to leave yourself empty. Self love is important, my children. It is called balance!"

-Message from Spirit, channeled by Megan Allegra

When Spirit told me this message they showed me the image of a vas that was filled with beautiful vibrant clouds of color. This vas was nearly overflowing with this magical colorful love. It had a face on the front of the vas beaming with happiness as though it was a human being in the form of this object. Beside it was another vas, looking unhappy and regretful as it stared at the original vas. The second vas was empty with only tracings of the colorful magical love that once filled it.

When spirit tells me these messages and includes images such as the one described above it's for a very specific reason to help understand the context of the message. When we "leave ourselves empty" we become resentful for giving away everything we had to give and feel worthless without the seemingly endless supply of love. Leaving ourselves empty can cause depression, anxiety, self-loathing, and eventually negative feelings toward the one we gave this love to. We begin to look at them with a feeling of "I give all of myself to you and what do I have in return?" as though they were supposed to be the one reciprocating. Of course, it's important to give love and be open to receive it in return but we must set the example first. We must set the intention first by saying, "I love myself, too!"

It's hard for us to openly admit to loving ourselves. Somehow in our society we are conditioned to believe that self love translates to selfishness but this is not always the case. Self love is important. It creates a balance in our system. It's a constant give and take, a constant flow of love in and out of our body that improves our emotional and spiritual well being.

I encourage you to take time out of your day to show yourself love. Do something that warms your heart and makes you feel alive. Do you like to sing but aren't very good at it? Sing regardless of how you sound. Let the energy inside you move in a positive direction. If you like to draw, write, walk, exercise or cook- do it. Devote time in your day to loving yourself more fully. You will begin to notice that spreads quickly to others, showing them love becomes as second-nature as breathing in and out. Love is a part of us. God is love and we have God inside us. To give that love away with no intent to return it to yourself means to deprive yourself of the Godliness within you.

Ask yourself, how have I shown myself love today?
